BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In one final Ivy Round-Robin tune-up, the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's fencing programs head to Long Island University (LIU) this Sunday for the Tri-State Shark Showcase.
Previewing Penn
The men won seven of 10 matches during the Philadelphia Invitational. Most notably, the Red and Blue won the final point of the match to score a 14-13 win over pre-season #3 Ohio State. Penn added wins over Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, NJIT, Haverford, Sacred Heart, and Wayne State during the event.
The women won their first nine matches during the Philadelphia Invitational, highlighted by wins over pre-season #10 Duke and #11 Temple. Additionally, the Quakers beat FDU and Lafayette—dropping just a single point across those two matches— NJIT, Wagner, NYU, Sacred Heart, and Wayne State.

Arthur Andreev and
Avery Townsend finished the Philly Invite a combined 38-21, the foilist duo of
Blake Broszus and
Eric Yu ended the weekend a combined 26-11, and sabreist Simon Kuskhov won 13 of 21 bouts.
Women
The
Chloe Daniel-
Jessica Liang duo won 42 of 59 bouts last weekend in epee, the foilist quartet of
Sabrina Cho,
Justina Lam,
Katina Proestakis Ortiz, and
Julia Thompson were a combined 53-19, and the sabre trio of
Sapphira Ching,
Sarah Hilado, and
Hailey Lu finished a combined 60-26.
Previewing the Field
Penn will compete in four matches on Saturday, against St. John's, the host Sharks, an Ivy Round-Robin preview with Yale, and Hunter to wrap the day's action.
On the women's side, Penn is #10 in the mid-season coaches poll, just behind Yale at #8 and a few spots ahead of St. John's at #15. On the men's side, Penn checks in at #6, just ahead of Yale, who are joint #9, along with recent Penn opponent Duke.
