PHILADELPHIA – For the first time this season, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team hosts a meet at The Palestra, taking on GEC foe William & Mary Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

The Quakers have had a strong start to their 2023 season, most recently scoring their sixth-best mark in program history at the Penn State Quad last Friday night in University Park with a 194.900.

This will be Penn's first true Gymnastics East Conference test of the year after besting Southern Connecticut State last week.

*Penn's 194.900 at Penn State was its sixth-best score in program history and highest mark since notching a 196.950 at last season's GEC Championship (the program's record score).

Skyelar Kerico was named GEC Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, the second consecutive week she's earned an honor after she was named GEC Newcomer of the Week after the first week of competition.

*Kerico completed the all-around at the Penn State Quad, tying for first overall in the vault (9.850), the fourth-best mark in program history. She also tied for fifth-overall (with
McCaleigh Marr) on the balance beam with a 9.825. She was second overall for the all-around score (39.075), finishing closely behind the Nittany Lions' Maddie Johnston (39.150).

Marissa Lassiter tied for second overall at Penn State in her floor exercise routine, scoring a 9.800.

*Trailing just Kerico,
Kiersten Belkoff recorded a 9.800 on the vault to finish the meet second overall.

*William & Mary has just one meet under its belt this season so far, opening the year last Sunday at George Washington with a fourth-place finish and an opening team score of 188.575. The Tribe finished behind opponents GW, Nebraska and Cornell.

*The Tribe were led by Keaghan Schafer, who took eighth place on floor, posting a career-high mark of 9.800. Sarah Wozniak recorded a top-10 finish on bars (9.700), while Sofia Huang earned a career-high 9.700 on vault to lead her team.

*This will be the first head-to-head dual meet between Penn and W&M since 2019 when the Quakers topped the Tribe, 193.025-192.850, in the Rumble & Tumble at The Palestra. The dual scheduled for the 2022 campaign was canceled.
