ITHACA, N.Y. – The five-peat has been claimed in Ithaca! The University of Pennsylvania women's gymnastics team claimed its fifth-straight Gymnastics East Conference title Saturday evening, placing first with a 195.025. Yale placed second with a 194.625 with Brown third at a 194.525.
With the GEC Championship victory, the Quakers complete yet another "treble" of the Ivy Classic, GEC regular season title, and GEC Championship.
Penn was led by a host of victors on the day, with
Manama Fofana (vault & floor),
Marissa Lassiter (bars & floor), and
Mimi Fletcher all claiming first places and GEC Champion status on the day.
VAULT – 48.950
As it has been all year, the vault was led by
Manama Fofana and
Jordan Barrow, who earned 9.850 and 9.825, respectively. Fofana's performance earned her first place and GEC Champion on the vault.
BARS – 48.600
Marissa Lassiter was the star of this rotation, placing first on the bars with a 9.825. She led the way on the rotation by a full half point, producing a key moment as the senior's career comes to a close.
BEAM – 48.350
If there is one thing that can be said, it is that the GEC Championships always produce key moments for the Quakers, and a key moment was just that when
Mimi Fletcher delivered a 9.950 to close out the beam rotation. That score is tied with only three gymnasts in Penn history for the best in program history. Flecther has forever etched her name in the Penn record books with the shining performance.
FLOOR – 49.225
The floor routine has been a strong one for the Quakers all year, but none more strong than tonight, when the Red and Blue produced the third best floor score of all time. With every score at a 9.800 or better, this was a simply spectacular display from all around. In her final floor event, the "Dancing Queen"
Marissa Lassiter gave the best performance of her career of a 9.900.
Manama Fofana matched that total of her own, with freshman
Ava Hooten just behind at 9.825.
The GEC Championship caps off yet another stellar season from the Quakers, well-documented as one of the best years in program history.
