PHILADELPHIA – Freshman
Skyelar Kerico was named Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) Gymnast of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The honor marks the second in as many weeks for Kerico after she earned Newcomer of the Week laurels to open the regular season. It also marks the Quakers' second straight Gymnast of the Week award after
Sara Kenefick was honored following last week's competition.
Â
Kerico once again completed the all-around at the Penn State Quad last Friday night as Penn finished second out of four teams, ahead of LIU and fellow GEC opponent Southern Connecticut State. She tied for first overall in the vault (9.850), which ended up being the fourth-best mark in program history. She also tied for fifth overall (with
McCaleigh Marr) on the balance beam with a score of 9.825.
Â
The Toms River, N.J. native nearly captured the all-around crown with a second-place finish (39.075), behind only Penn State's Maddie Johnston (39.150).
Â
Penn will host William & Mary Sunday at 2 p.m. in its first home meet of the season at The Palestra. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
