Heavyweights Complete Racing at Sunday's EARC Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew completed racing at the EARC Sprints on Sunday, the Quakers racing four Eights across the day.

Varsity Eight
Penn won the Third Final and finished 13th overall, falling one spot below its pre-race seed. The Quakers clocked 6:15.035 in its final and bested Holy Cross (6:21.451) and Georgetown (6:23.957).
 
Penn took fifth in an extremely fast morning heat; the Quakers' time of 6:03.514 was nearly 12 seconds better than their time in the final, but it wasn't enough to beat Yale, Princeton, Northeastern or Columbia.
 
Second Varsity Eight
Penn made the Petite Final where it finished sixth in 6:19.437. Syracuse won the race in 6:09.513 which was a little more than a second ahead of second-place Navy (6:10.833). Northeastern was third, followed by Cornell, Wisconsin and Penn.
 
In its morning heat, Penn took fourth in a five-boat race behind Brown, Harvard and Navy but ahead of Holy Cross. The Quakers' time was 6:15.463 in the heat.
 
Third Varsity Eight
Penn took fifth in the Petite Final in a time of 6:23.854. That was well ahead of Holy Cross (6:43.886) but behind Cornell, Boston University, Navy and Wisconsin.
 
In its morning heat, Penn clocked 6:25.682 and was sixth.
 
Fourth Varsity Eight
Rowing a boat that mixed heavyweights and lightweights, Penn was fifth in the Petite Final in a time of 6:22.977, just missing fourth behind Wisconsin (9:22.454). BU won the race, with Cornell second and Syracuse third.
 
In the morning heat, Penn was sixth in 6:19.437.
 
Up Next
Penn now points toward the IRA National Championships, which will take place in nearby West Windsor, N.J., from June 3-5.
