PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew completed a full day of racing Saturday on Lake Carnegie, competing in the Princeton Invite with five boats in both sessions.
The Varsity Eight entered the day ranked tenth nationally and the Quakers met that ranking, falling to fourth-ranked Princeton, seventh-ranked Stanford and ninth-ranked Syracuse across two races but easily beating No. 19 Columbia. The Tigers won the morning race for the Childs Cup, clocking 6:14.703 to beat the Quakers (6:25.879) and Lions (6:32.171).
Penn's Fourth Varsity Eight had the most success of the day, winning both of its races—against Princeton and Columbia in the morning session, then Brown and Columbia in the afternoon. The 3V8 also had a solid day, taking second to Princeton in a four-boat race in the morning and then beating Syracuse in the afternoon, while the 2V8 also placed second in its four-boat race Saturday morning.
