PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team fell 8-2 to Villanova on Wednesday evening at Penn Park. Penn staged a late rally in the seventh inning but was unable to push more than a run across the plate. The Quakers fall to 9-20 on the season while Villanova improves to 16-19.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start as they touched up the Penn pitching for a solo home run and a three-run shot in the top of the first.
Penn got on the board in the bottom of the third as
Bella Fiorentino reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Sammy Fenton from third.
Villanova added four more runs over the final four innings as the offense hit three more solo home runs. The first of three was in the fourth inning and then back-to-back shots in the top of the seventh made it 8-1 in favor of the visitors.
The Quakers staged a rally in the bottom of the seventh and pushed a run across the plate as
Ashley Waco scored on a passed ball. That would be all they would get as the final two batters struck out to end the rally and the game.

- Sarah Schneider extended her hit streak to four games as she picked up her only hit in the game in the seventh inning.
- Penn pitching gave up a season-high five home runs.

Penn is back to Ivy play as it heads to Cambridge this weekend for a three-game series at Harvard. The Quakers and the Crimson will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch of both days is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
