PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team went down 7-0 but responded with four in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the Princeton lead to two runs. However, the Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the series finale and complete the series sweep of the Quakers.
Princeton 9, Penn 5
Princeton jumped all over the Penn pitching in the second inning. The Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate as they faced three different Quaker pitchers in the inning.
Rachel Riley the first six batters allowing three runs on four hits.
Olivia Szewczyk entered with two outs and gave up four straight base hits. One run would score while she was in the circle, but the run was charged to Riley.
Julia Longo then entered the game with the bases loaded and gave up a two RBI base hit to center before getting a fly out to right to end the inning.
Penn attempted a come back as it put up four runs in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Alyssa Pope came on to pinch hit for
Sammy Fenton and she delivered on a 0-2 count, a bases clearing triple down the right field line.
The next batter,
Sarah Schneider, drove in Pope with a base hit to center field.
Penn added another run in the top of the fifth to make it 7-5.
Emma Nedley reached on a fielder's choice as the Tigers could only get the runner going to second out. This allowed
Abbie Stellrecht to score her first career run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers regrew their lead to four runs as they got a two-RBI double down the right field line to make it 9-5.
The Red and Blue opened the top of the seventh with back-to-back walks by Laurel McKevley and
Bella Fiorentino. Fiorentino then advanced to second as McKelvey was caught stealing at third. The Tigers then got back-to-back strikeouts swinging to end the game.

Penn returns to Philly for its rescheduled Ivy series with Dartmouth on Tuesday and Wednesday. The two teams will play a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday and then play a single game on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Red and Blue will close out the regular season with a three-game series against the Yale Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday.
