ATLANTA - University of Pennsylvania freshman Matt Fallon finished a strong weekend at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships with a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday night. That gave Fallon first-team All-America honors.
Fallon's time in the final was 1:49.16. The freshman got out to a slow start and was eighth at the midway point of the race, but made a patented late rush before running out of time. Leon Marchand of Arizona State won the race in 1:48.20, while Minnesota's Max McHugh was second in 1:48.76.
Earlier in the day, Fallon set a program and Ivy League record by clocking 1:49.03 which was the fastest time among all the swimmers in the morning heats.
On Friday, Fallon earned his first All-America recognition as a Quaker, gaining honorable mention honors as he finished tenth in the 100 breaststroke. He fell just shy of his program record (51.45 seconds) in both of his races Friday, clocking 51.51 in the morning heats and then 51.57 in the evening's 'B' final.
Fallon is the men's program's first first-team All-America since Mark Andrew, who gained the honor in the 400 IM at the 2019 NCAA Championships. Like Fallon, Andrew also gained an honorable mention All-America recognition at that Championships, in the 200 IM.
