NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field programs opened the two-day Dr. Sander/Columbia Challenge on Friday at the Armory.
Â
The Quakers had a handful of great performances, led by
Skyla Wilson with a new program record in the 60m hurdles. In the preliminaries, she finished seventh with a time of 8.48 to qualify for the finals, a time that pushed her up to fourth in program history. In the finals, she crushed that time for a third-place finish at 8.35, setting the new mark in the Penn record book.
Â
In the 60 hurdles prelims,
Shevell Higgs and
Katherine Muccio finished 15th and 16th, respectively with times of 8.77. The time was good enough to move Higgs into ninth in program history, while Muccio already sits seventh with a time of 8.74.
Â
On the men's side, eyes were on the 60 hurdles as well with
Enoch Cheung qualifying for the finals with a time of 8.08 for eighth place. He moved up two spots in the final to finish sixth overall with a time of 8.12.
Â
In the field events, the pole vault saw Benedikt Sachta earn a second-place finish with a clearance of 5.10m (16-8.75), a feat he cleared on his first attempt. The height is good enough to drop him into the program top-10, sitting eighth.
Â
The men's heptathlon knocked out four of its seven events on Friday, as
Michael Hermes sits eighth with 2,304 points and
Andrew Colbert is at 12th with 1,988 points. Hermes had his best finish in the high jump with a clearance of 1.91m for second place, while Colbert finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 12.46m.
Â
The Quakers are back in action tomorrow for the final day of the meet. Events begin at 8:30 a.m.
