Korzeniowski and Burney Add College Soccer News to United Soccer Coaches All-America Honors

PHILADELPHIA – College Soccer News recently named University of Pennsylvania men's soccer player Stas Korzeniowski second-team All-America and teammate Leo Burney was named a third-team All-America, adding to the pair's year-end honors.

The pair previously earned All-American recognition from the United Soccer Coaches, the Quakers' first All-Americans in 20 years.

Korzeniowski has also earned Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, United Soccer Coaches first-team All-Region, and Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star honors for his superb 2022. Burney has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, and joined Korzeniowski on the All-Region first-team and Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star teams.

"As a program, we are extremely happy and proud to see Leo and Stas named All-Americans, it's a major accomplishment for both of them," said James C. Gentle Head Coach Brian Gill. "This season was truly a remarkable experience for everyone involved. To be able to win an Ivy League Championship and enjoy some success in the NCAA Championships is something that we are extremely proud of. Seeing our players get recognized at the league, regional, and now national levels is satisfying for us as a staff because we know how much work all of the guys put into representing the team and the university."

Korzeniowski scored a conference-leading 10 goals during the regular season and added another during the NCAA Championships, adding six assists for 28 points. He scored five goals and 13 points in a three-match stretch in mid-September, then capped his season with goals in five of the team's final seven matches, including four of the last five Ivy contests. He tacked on a goal in Penn's 3-0 NCAA win over Rutgers and assisted on the Quakers' goal against Syracuse in the second round.

Burney's back line efforts contributed to eight Penn shutouts, including the victory Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Championships; he also helped limit opposing teams to fewer than one goal and eight shots per match during the season. Additionally, he frequently made his presence felt on the offensive side of the ball, finishing fourth on the team with five goals and 12 points. Two of his goals came in Ivy League play, against Yale and Cornell, with each holding up as the game-winner.

Penn finished the season 13-3-2, capturing the program's first Ivy League championship since 2013 and finishing one win shy of tying the program record set back in 1974.
