PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team picked up its first victory of the 2022 season, defeating Villanova 186-112 Wednesday evening at Sheerr Pool.
The Quakers picked up 11 victories in 16 total events led by a pair for both freshman
Abby Wickersham and sophomore
Joy Jiang, as well as two victories in diving for freshman
Sadie Howard.

*Wickersham claimed wins in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.27) as well as the 100 free (52.59), beating out teammate
Amber Smith by .04 seconds. She was also the anchor in the 200-medley relay that took first place with a time of 1:45.86. Also featured on that time with Smith,
Keara McGowan and
Vanessa Chong.
*Jiang continued upon her strong showing against Columbia over the weekend with a victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.64 as well as first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.08).
*Howard swept the boards with victories in both the one-meter dive (307.80) and three-meter dive with a score of 273.98.
Olivia Francella took second in both dives with scores of 258.45 and 255.38, respectively.

Anna Moehn in the 200 free (1:53.80),
Catherine Buroker in the 500 free (4:59.61) and Chong in the 100 fly (56.35) all took home first-place finishes to help Penn maintain its cushion.
*It was a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 free led by
Anna Kalandadze with a time of 10:13.44. Coming in second was
Amelia Girotto (10:14.93), with third going to
Sydney Bergstrom (10:24.96).
*Buroker's showing in the 500 free headlined another 1-2-3 finish with Kalandadze placing second (5:06.55) and Bergstrom rounding out the top three, timing in at 5:08.02.
