PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League announced its men's soccer weekly awards on Monday afternoon, as the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer program swept the honors. Senior
Ben Stitz was named Player of the Week, and freshman
Charlie Gaffney was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
Stitz, earning his first weekly honor, had a career night on Friday, bolstering five points on three assists and a goal in a 5-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's. Recording all five points in the first half, he dished out assists on the first three goals before putting away his own in the 37th minute. He now has nine points through five matches this season, good enough for second in the Ivy League.
Gaffney put points up in both matches last week to earn him his first weekly honor of his collegiate career. On Monday, he registered his first collegiate goal in a 2-2 draw against Loyola (Md.) and followed it up with a perfect cross into the 18-yard box for the assist on the fourth goal against the Mountaineers. The Seattle, Washington native has put up points in each of the three matches he has played in this season, totaling four on a goal and two assists.
The Quakers take the pitch tonight on the road at Rutgers, the first road match they have had since the season opener. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
