PHILADELPHIA – The Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) has announced its inaugural class of IRCA All-Americans, and the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing program is proud to have four members recognized with All-America honors.
Â
Three Quakers rowers—senior
Alex Beheshti and freshmen
Dominick Richiuso and
Joseph Wilbur—were named first-team IRCA All-America, while junior coxswain
Julianna Langhorn was named honorable mention IRCA All-America. They joined 69 other rowers and coxswains representing 28 teams across the heavyweight (23) and lightweight (5) classifications. All four helped Penn's lightweight Varsity Eight finish second to Navy at the IRA National Championships in May.
Â
In order to be considered for IRCA All-America honors, rowers and coxswains must have met the following criteria:
Â
*Must meet all eligibility rules defined by their institution
*Must have races in their current spring season's varsity boat
*Must be nominated by the institution
*The head coach must be in good standing with the IRCA
Â
Nominated student-athletes are then selected by the IRCA Board of Directors based on the following criteria:
Â
*Strength of finish of the institution's varsity boat
*Nomination rank within institution
*Coach's comments, individual achievements, and erg score
