WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew earned a pair of medals on Friday at the IRA National Championships, as the Varsity Eights gained silver with a second-place finish and the Second Varsity Eights gained bronze with a third-place finish. This year's Championships was hosted on Mercer Lake.

Lightweight Varsity Eights
Penn entered the day with the second-ranked boat and that's exactly where the Quakers finished. Navy, the top-ranked boat all spring, jumped out to a fast start and never let up, clocking 6:44.899 to win the national title. Penn pushed the Midshipmen through the middle part of the race but could never get level, finishing in 6:47.476. Princeton matched Navy's start but quickly wilted and was a distant third, in 6:55.546, followed by Mercyhurst (7:04.619) and Temple (7:14.606).
Lightweight Second Varsity Eights
The Quakers earned bronze medals with a third-place finish in Friday's final. Penn's time was 6:54.105. Navy won the 2V8 title in 6:41.362, followed by Princeton (6:47.282).
