FAIRFAX, Va. – Six grapplers made the trip to Fairfax, Va. for the Patriot open on Sunday.
Blair Orr,
CJ Composto,
Jeremy Ridge,
Cam Connor,
Greg Bensley, and
Cole Urbas.
Orr won his first bout of the day winning by a 6-4 decision over Dayton DelViscio (Navy). His day ended after that bout as he had to forfeit his next bout.
Composto made quick work of his first opponent winning by fall just 40 seconds in to the bout. He advanced to the semifinals at 141 pounds with an 8-4 win by decision over Lehigh's Dan Moran. Composto won by decision in the semifinals with an 11-8 victory over Rider's McKenzie Bell. He finished runner up at 141 pounds as he lost by decision, 9-2 to Columbia's Matthew Kazimir.
Ridge won his first bout by technical fall (16-1, 5:52). He then lost in the round of 16 by a 14-8 decision to Lehigh's Patrick Edmondson.
Connor won by fall (7-1, 4:06) over Navy's Michael Ponenti. He then lost by a 7-0 decision in the quarterfinals to Lehigh's Thayne Lawrence.
Bensley lost by major decision to Brock Del Signore, 15-4.
Urbas made his way through the 197 bracket claiming first place. He took his opening bout winning by decision 8-2. Urbas won by technical fall (16-1, 2:03) over Ferrum's Braden Homsey. He easily claimed the title as won by major decision (15-3).
Midlands is up next on the Quakers schedule.
