PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League announced the field hockey major awards and All-Ivy honors on Tuesday, as the University of Pennsylvania was represented by four Quakers.
Â
Senior captain
Gracyn Banks led a group of four with a unanimous selection to first team as well as Academic All-Ivy. She was joined by junior
Sydney Huang on second team and juniors
Meghan Ward and
Elita Van Staden on honorable mention.
Â
Banks was one of five Ivy student-athletes to be unanimously selected to first team, and the first for the Quakers since Alexa Hoover in 2016. This is Banks' second All-Ivy honor, earning second team her sophomore season. As a defender, she has started in all 16 games this season, never leaving the field. She ranks second on the team in points with 10 off four goals and two assists, while also leading the Ivy League in defensive saves with five.
Â
Huang earned her first postseason honor being named to second team, also starting in all 16 games this season. Like Banks, she hardly left the field, sitting third on the roster in minutes with 885, only behind Banks and sophomore keeper
Sabien Paumen. Huang registered six points this season with two goals and two assists. Her two finishes came against No. 1 North Carolina and No. 17 Princeton.
Â
Ward is coming off the most successful season of her collegiate career in 2021, leading the Quakers in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Of her six goals, four were registered as game-winning finishes including three straight Ivy games in October against Cornell, Brown, and Yale.
Â
Van Staden is back for her second postseason honor, earning second team her freshman year. Also a key piece in the back unit, played in 14 games this season with 11 starts, registering three assists on her skills off the penalty corner. She collected assists against No. 17 Princeton, Brown, and Yale.
Â
The Quakers wrapped up the season on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth to end the year with a 9-7 record, 5-2 in the Ivy League for third place.
