Four Men's Soccer Players Garner All-Ivy Honors

PHILADELPHIA – Four members of the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team garnered All-Ivy distinction as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that at least four Quakers earned All-Ivy honors.

Freshman Leo Burney was named first team All-Ivy, the senior midfield duo of Ben Stitz and Isaac McGinnis both earned second team honors, and freshman midfielder Stas Korzeniowski earned honorable mention status.

Burney was among the most constant on-field presences in all of Division I this season, playing 1,492 of a possible 1,514 minutes. Burney's backline play helped Penn hold 14 of its 16 opponents to two goals or fewer, including three shutouts. Burney also notched his first collegiate goal in an enormous spot, heading home an 86th-minute equalizer in an eventual double overtime win over Dartmouth.

Stitz finished the season with eight assists, proving himself to be one of the finest distributors in the Ivy League. He posted a three-point night in an early season win over Colgate, then topped that with a career-best five-point performance in a victory over Mount St. Mary's less than two weeks later. Stitz also provided the assist on the lone goal of the match in a win over Monmouth, the game-tying goal in a comeback win over Drexel, and the game-winning goal in a comeback triumph against Temple the following week.

McGinnis showed why he was named a team captain before the season with remarkable two-way play from the midfield spot. He scored the first goal of the match in an early season contest with Penn State, then headed home the lone goal of the match in the victory versus Monmouth. McGinnis also added an assist on on a double overtime goal in an Ivy League win against Dartmouth.

Korzeniowski averaged only 15 minutes per contest in the first six matches of the season, but made a significant impact in the back half of the year, when he averaged 41 minutes a match. He scored Penn's lone goal in a draw with Columbia, then scored the double overtime game-winner versus Dartmouth. Korzeniowski made a significant case as a force to be reckoned with on the pitch moving forward.

The Red and Blue finished above .500 for the third straight season under head coach Brian Gill, the first such occurrence since the 1982-1984 campaigns. The Quakers went 6-3-2 at Rhodes Field this season, running their home record under Gill to 14-6-6, a 65.4 win percentage.
