PHILADELPHIA – Natalie Yang, of the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team, opened the 2020 campaign with a win in her first meet, dominating the beam to garner distinction as the Specialist of the Week, the ECAC announced.
On Sunday's season opener at The Palestra, Yang captured the beam win with a 9.825, one of just two routines all day on any event that earned at least a 9.800 – the other was sophomore Sydney Kraez. Yang, who enjoyed a tremendous freshman season on beam last year with two meet victories and scored a career-high 9.875 – tied for the fourth-best score in program history – at Lindenwood.
As a team, Penn fell to Towson last weekend 192.650-191.425, despite some promising moments for the Quakers, led by Yang's beam routine. Penn is back in action this Sunday, Jan. 19 at George Washington for the Lindsey Ferris Invitational.
