PRINCETON, N.J – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered an Ivy League opening 3-0 loss to the Princeton Tigers on Friday night. Sophomore
Kylie Kulinski notched 25 assists for the Quakers in the loss.
The loss drops the Quakers to 7-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Ivy League.
In the first set, the Quakers got strong play from
Parker Jones and
Autumn Leak, who tallied five and four kills respectively and notched hitting percentages of .417 and .375 respectively. However, the Tigers got a boost from an 11-6 run to end the first set, tallying a 25-20 victory.
Some post set adjustments powered the Quakers to an early lead against the Tigers in the second set. However, the two teams ultimately traded blows for the remainder of the set, with the Tigers stealing the second 26-24.
Carmina Raquel tallied five digs and Leak continued her efficient play, recording three more kills in the loss.
The second set victory propelled the Tigers to an early lead over the Quakers. Despite some valiant efforts from Raquel and
Margaret Planek, the Quakers were unable to cut the deficit enough, suffering a 25-18 defeat in the decisive third set.
Penn returns home to The Palestra for its Ivy League home opener on October 4
th as they face off against Cornell at 7 p.m.
