A year ago, Allison Frommer (C'21), a Logic, Information, and Computation major, was matched with Marissa Rosen (C'10), also a math major, as part of Penn's Athlete Mentor Program.
Going in, neither knew where it would lead. Frommer shares, "One of my goals was to connect with an alumni in a potential field to learn more about careers in math. I was also excited to have someone who had been through very similar experiences as I am going through now."
For her part, the mentor was happy to provide the bars specialist with the resources she had used at Penn to determine her career path and options for summer internship. She also looked forward to being someone her mentee could count on to discuss anything about school, gymnastics or career.
The pair met at homecoming, Rosen making the trip from the west coast. "We got to meet and learn more about each other. We both have strong interests in math so I was able to suggest how she might tackle the math major path." offers the alum, a Global Alliances Senior Manager at Salesforce.
Frommer was impressed with her mentor from the start. "She was still so connected to Penn and happy to give back, which showed me the value of the community and network at Penn."
This summer Frommer scored an internship with the U.S. Navy, and she looks to her mentor for networking as she considers life after Penn. Rosen obviously enjoys the relationship.
"Allison is very mature and has such a strong view of what she wants to do in terms of major and career. She is very bright, hard-working, and willing to help her teammates. The sky is the limit for her."
Looks like the pair has solved the equation.
