PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its All-Ivy teams in men's heavyweight and men's lightweight crew, and the University of Pennsylvania was well-represented after an historic finish at the EARC Sprints on Sunday.
Sixth-year head coach
Colin Farrell was named the Ivy League's Lightweight Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. The Coach of the Year award has been presented to one heavyweight coach and one lightweight coach annually since 2015.
Penn's Lightweight Varsity Eights also were named first-team All-Ivy by virtue of their win at Sprints. The first boat consisted of freshman coxswain
Julianna Langhorn and (from stroke to bow) junior
Dominique Williams, junior
Colley Loum, freshman
Aleksandar Izda, sophomore
Alex Beheshti, sophomore
Ed Barry, freshman
Neel Vallurupalli, sophomore
Justin Meeker, and junior
Alexander Bowlby.
Penn's EARC win on Sunday was its first at the lightweight level since 1976 and just the fifth in program history with the others coming in 1951, 1952 and 1955. The Varsity Eights have had three straight top-three finishes at Sprints, the first time that has happened since 1950-52.
Penn's season continues with the IRA National Championship Regatta, which takes place May 31 to June 2 in Sacramento, Calif. The EARC win also qualifies the Quakers for the famed Henley Regatta in London, England, which takes place July 3-7.
