PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team continues its season as the Quakers host Monmouth for a midweek game at Meiklejohn Stadium. Penn moved to 17-8 on the season and 6-3 in Ivy League play after a series sweep over Dartmouth last weekend.

THE MATCHUP
Wednesday's game will be the 10
th meeting between Penn and Monmouth. The Hawks have taken the last four meetings and hold a 6-3 record against the Quakers. The first meeting between the two programs dates back to 1968. Penn won the high-scoring affair, 17-13.
The Hawks sit at 11-17-1 heading into Wednesday's game. Monmouth struggled to start the season, losing nine of its first ten, but have since turned things around. The Hawks hosted Princeton last Wednesday—Penn's upcoming Ivy League opponent—and defeated the Tigers, 11-6.
NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*After an offensive onslaught against Dartmouth, the Quakers continue to post some of the top offensive numbers in the nation. Penn ranks second in Division I baseball in batting average (.351), scoring (10.8 runs per game), and on-base percentage (.444). Additionally, Penn ranks first in doubles per game (3.24), third in doubles (81), and third in slugging (.535).
*Penn set several NCAA records in its 21-inning game against Dartmouth.
Craig Larsen and
Peter Matt each set the NCAA record for at-bats in a single game with 12 each. The Quakers set the record for total at-bats in a single game with 92 while Penn and Dartmouth combined to set the NCAA record for at-bats (176) and plate appearances (206)
*In Penn's 21-inning game, Larsen became the first Penn player to hit for the cycle since Jeff Gregorio in 2000. The freshman went 5-for-12 with two doubles, a triple, a grand slam, and a bunt single to round it out. Larsen was named Ivy League Player of the Week and Rookie of the week, as well as Big 5 Player of the Week after an all-around outstanding week.

Mitchell Holcomb was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week after his complete game in game two against Dartmouth. Over his nine innings pitched, Holcomb allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Christian Scafidi was named Big 5 Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the series finale against Dartmouth. The junior helped Penn clinch the sweep on Sunday, tossing eight scoreless innings with four hits allowed, seven strikeouts, and just one walk. All four of Dartmouth's hits against Scafidi were singles and the Big Green were unable to get more than one knock in an inning.

2 • Starters with a batting average above .400, with Phelan batting .407 and O'Neill batting .402 on the season. The pair ranks second and third in the Ivy League, respectively.
