Baseball Treks North to Continue Ivy Play Against Dartmouth

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team continues into the third week of Ivy League play as Penn makes the trek up to Hanover, N.H. for a three-game set with Dartmouth.
 
The Quakers and the Big Green are both 3-3 in Ivy League play and sit fourth in the standings. The two teams are each a game behind first place and will look to jump to the top of the standings after this series. Dartmouth will hope to best Penn's offensive production in the series, as the Big Green have scored 23 runs in two of their six Ivy League games this season.

THE MATCHUP
Game one will be the 175th meeting between Penn and Dartmouth. The series has historically been close, with the Big Green holding a 90-82-2 record against the Quakers. Penn won the first matchup between the two teams, 9-6 in 1891.
 
The last four series have been an even contest, with a win, loss, and tie for Penn in last year's series and three-consecutive twinbill splits the three years prior.
 
NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*The #QuakeShow is entering primetime, as Penn's offense is one of the best in Division I baseball. The Quakers rank second in the country in scoring (10 runs per game), batting average (.346), and on-base percentage (.445). Additionally, the Quakers rank first in doubles per game (3.05) and third in slugging percentage (.521).
 
*Penn ranks first in the Ivy League in RBI with 196 RBI. The Quakers have 67 more RBI than the League's second-best team, Yale (129).
 
*Sean Phelan ranks sixth in the nation in hits per game (1.76). The senior captain leads the Ivy League with 39 hits. He has the second-best batting average in the Ivies (.402) and in his 97 at-bats has only struck out nine times. 
 
*Craig Larsen leads the Ivy League with 30 RBI. The freshman added to his lead with a pair of RBI in Penn's 20-7 win over Saint Joseph's. Additionally, Larsen ranks ninth in the nation in hits per game (1.70) and 12th in RBI per game (1.40).
 
*Chris Adams made his return from injury against Saint Joseph's after missing nearly a month. The junior captain didn't miss a beat, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.
 
*Peter Matt has proven to be one of the best baserunners in the Ivy League. He ranks first in the Ivies in runs scored (27) and ranks 17th in the nation in runs per game (1.29). He has 11 of Penn's 26 stolen bases.
 
*Holcomb earned his fourth victory of the season in Penn's 17-4 win over Brown on Sunday. He holds the League's best record at 4-0. The junior has pitched 29 innings over five starts this season, allowing 18 runs on 30 hits with 21 strikeouts.
 
*Captain Matt O'Neill has the best on-base percentage in the Ivy League (.495). He leads Penn with 20 walks and ranks second in the Ivies in reaching base on balls.
