Baseball Hosts Brown in Second Week of Ivy League Play

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team enters the second week of Ivy League play as the Quakers welcome Brown to Meiklejohn Stadium this weekend for a three-game series. The series will start with a twinbill on Saturday with game one starting at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude on Sunday with the series finale starting at noon.

THE MATCHUP
Game one of the series will be the 158th meeting between Penn and Brown. The Quakers hold the series advantage with a 78-74-5 record against the Bears dating back to 1885. Brown has struggled so far this season, holding a 4-15 record, but are level with Penn after a 1-2 start to Ivy League play.
 
NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*Penn ranks third in the nation in team batting average, with the Red and Blue batting .327 on the season. The Quakers tie Mississippi State for fourth in scoring (9.4 runs per game), and additionally rank fourth in slugging percentage (.513), second in on-base percentage (.435), and first in doubles per game (3.11).
 
*Craig Larsen ranks eighth in the nation in RBI per game (1.53). He leads the Quakers and the Ivy League with 26 this season. The freshman is on an 11-game hitting streak entering the series with Brown.
 
*Freshman Josh Hood was awarded with the D1 Baseball Golden Spikes Performance of the Week award after going 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, and five RBI in game two against Harvard.
 
*Hood and Larsen lead the Quakers and the Ivy League with 10 doubles each this season. Larsen ranks fourth nationally with 0.59 doubles per game, while Hood ranks eighth with 0.56 per game.
 
*Sean Phelan has reached base in all 18 of Penn's games this season. He leads the Quakers with a .495 on-base percentage, and leads in hits (30), batting average (.400), and total bases (51).
 
*Seven of Penn's starting nine have a batting average greater than .300 through 17 games. Phelan leads the group (.400) followed by Larsen (.389), Hood (.360), Eduardo Malinowski (.325), Matt O'Neill (.323), Peter Matt (.317), and Jackson Petersen (.303).
