Baseball Heads to Bethlehem for Midweek Matchup with Lehigh

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team travels to Bethlehem, Pa. for a midweek matchup against Lehigh this Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
Penn has won its last six games, and nine of its last ten. The Quakers have terrorized opposing teams at the plate, compiling 82 runs during the winning streak.

THE MATCHUP
This marks the 118th meeting between the Quakers and the Mountain Hawks. The two teams first met in 1885 with Penn winning the first matchup, 21-9. The Quakers are 82-31-4 against Lehigh and have won their last three games against the Mountain Hawks.
 
Lehigh is 7-8 this season and is coming off a series victory over VMI last weekend. The Mountain Hawks have rebounded after being swept by Duke on Feb. 15-17 and losing the series opener against Mount St. Mary's the following weekend.

*After sweeping two twinbills with Fairleigh Dickinson, the Quakers are continuing their best start since the 2001 season.
 
*Last weekend, Penn took its first four-game sweep since winning a pair of doubleheaders against Princeton in 2016.
 
*Craig Larsen was named Ivy League Rookie of the week and Big 5 Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week after a slash line of .400/.520/.950 over Penn's last five games. Additionally, he was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week. Larsen compiled 13 RBI with two doubles and three home runs, including two grand slams.
 
*Eduardo Malinowski collected his first career Ivy League Player of the Week honor on Monday. In Penn's five games last week, he went 11-of-20 with eight RBI and 10 runs scored. He tripled three times over the week and four times this season, making him one of 12 NCAA Division I baseball players with four or more triples this season. He leads the nation in triples per game.
 
*The Quakers have the fifth-best team batting average in the nation, hitting .321 collectively this season.
 
*Penn is currently riding a six-game winning streak and has outscored opponents 82-24 in those games.
 
*Sean Phelan leads the team in hits (22) and batting average (.407), and is tied with Larsen for the most extra-base hits (9).
