Brodeur, Goodman Earn All-Ivy Recognition in Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its 2018-19 All-Ivy teams in men's basketball, and the University of Pennsylvania is represented by juniors AJ Brodeur (unanimous first-team All-Ivy) and Devon Goodman (second-team All-Ivy).

A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection for the second straight year, Brodeur leads Penn this season in scoring (17.4 ppg), rebounding (8.2 rpg), field-goal percentage (53.0), assists (111) and blocked shots (41). He is the only player in the Ivy League who was top five in all five of those categories. Brodeur had 28 double-figure scoring games this season—including nine 20-point games and one 30-point game—and enters the Ivy League Tournament on a 24-game streak of such games. Brodeur also has a team-high nine double-doubles this season. Currently, Brodeur is 16th on Penn's all-time scoring list with 1,340 points and he is second all-time with 148 blocked shots.

Goodman's honor is a deserving reward for arguably the most improved player in the league; after averaging 3.8 points per game last year as a sophomore, he has averaged 14.0 ppg this season for a 10.2-point improvement. In conference play, Goodman led the league in minutes per game and was second in steals per game (2.0), tied for third in 3-point field goals per game (2.2), finished fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (39.1), and was eighth in conference points per game (14.9). He enters the Ivy League Tournament on a five-game streak of double-figure scoring games, has 23 such games this season (including four games with 20 or more points), and leads the Quakers in three-point field goals (56) and steals (51) while sitting second in scoring.

For the second year in a row, the All-Ivy teams showed just how strong the future of the Ivy League is. Of the 13 players voted to All-Ivy recognition, nine of them return for next year. The All-Ivy first team included three juniors and three seniors, while the six players who received second-team honors included one senior, two juniors and three sophomores. Another junior received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition. Yale junior Miye Oni was named the Ivy League Player of the Year while Harvard freshman Noah Kirkwood was voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Brown senior Obi Okolie earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. Brown head coach Mike Martin was tabbed as the Ivy League Coach of the Year.

Penn (19-11, 7-7 Ivy League) will be the fourth seed at this weekend's Ivy League Tournament, which will take place at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on the campus of Yale University. The Quakers will face top-seeded Harvard in a semifinal Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The winner of that game advances to Sunday's championship game at noon, where they will play the winner of Saturday's Yale-Princeton semifinal. Both semifinal games will air nationally on ESPNU, while Sunday's Tournament championship game will air live on ESPN2. The winner of the Ivy League Tournament will receive the League's bid into the NCAA Tournament.
