Field Hockey Heads to New England to Face No. 19 Harvard, Boston U

PHILADELPHIA – This weekend, the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team will look to ride the momentum generated after a pair of wins last week as the Quakers travel to New England to face No. 19 Harvard as well as Boston University.

GAME 7: Penn (2-5, 1-0 Ivy) at No. 19 Harvard (5-2, 1-0 Ivy)

Among the Ranks
Penn leads the Ivy League with 56 corners and an average of eight corners per game. The average has the Quakers tied with Miami (OH) for sixth best in the nation.

Tearing Down the Ivy
Alexa Schneck thrives in Ivy League play. In 22 career games against Ancient Eight opponents, Schneck has totaled 33 points with 13 goals and seven assists. She earned her first points of the season with a goal and an assist against Cornell last Saturday.

Dual Sport Goalscorer
Madison Jiranek scored her team-leading fourth goal last Sunday against Temple to tie the game at 1-1. The sophomore—who also serves as a key player for the women's lacrosse team—has marked her name on the scoresheet four times from seven shots on goal.

Opening the Account
Last weekend, Maddy Fagan opened her goal-scoring account in a big way, netting three goals in Penn's games against Cornell and Temple. Fagan got her first collegiate goal against the Big Red, redirecting a ball in the circle off a corner to make it 2-2 then added another with a cool chip over the Cornell keeper to make it 4-2. She capped off the weekend with the game-winning goal against Temple, finding the back of the cage with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Fagan's three goals came from four shots.

Sensational South African
Elita van Staden also opened her goal-scoring account last weekend with a pair of goals against Cornell. The Pretoria, South Africa native's first goal came on a converted penalty stroke which gave Penn a 3-2 lead. She then capped off the scoring with the Quakers' fifth as she rifled a shot into the roof of the net following a corner.

Lending a Hand
Four different Penn players (Gracyn Banks, Erin Kelly, Erin Quinn, and Laura Shelton) lead the team with two assists.

Shoot Your Shot
Penn has at least 18 shots in each of its last four games to account for 79 of its 106 shots on the season—including a season-high 23 shots against Temple.

Covering the Crimson
Harvard enters the weekend with a 5-2 record and checked in at No. 19 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Crimson opened Ivy League play last weekend with a narrow, 2-1 win over Yale on Saturday. The Crimson then closed out the weekend with a 5-0 victory over New Hampshire on Sunday.

Scouting Boston University
After a 3-1 start to the season, the Terriers have dropped their last four games including three one-goal defeats. Boston University will host Patriot League rival Lafayette on Saturday before its game against Penn.
