Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale Against Yale

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a homestand finale loss to the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday night by a final score of 3-0.

The Quakers came out of the gate with great energy, trading blows with Yale from the get-go. The first set featured 10 ties and five lead changes, and the Quakers got great production from Parker Jones and Autumn Leak, with seven and five kills respectively. However, Yale ended the set on a 10-4 run and stole the set at 25-18.

The Bulldogs started the second in a positive manner, taking a 10-6 lead. The Quakers went toe-to-toe with Yale from there, tying the match on two separate occasions, but falling short 25-21. The Quakers offense proved to be more balanced in the second set, with five players recording two or more kills.

The third set proved to be more of the same for the two squads, as Yale took the final set 25-20. Leak continued her run of success, notching four kills and a .375 hitting percentage in the final set, to take her to 11 kills on the day. However, Yale notched 14 kills and five blocks as a team to prevail for the 3-0 victory.

During the game, Penn was able to honor championship teams of years past, welcoming the 1989 and 2009 Ivy League Champions back to The Palestra in recognition of their 30th and 10th anniversaries. Legendary figures made the return, including the winningest coach in Penn's history, Kerry Carr.

Penn returns to action on next weekend as they head out on the road for two games. The Quakers will begin with a matchup against Dartmouth on Friday at 7 p.m.
