HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team picked up a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Dartmouth Big Green on Friday night. The win marks the Quakers first Ivy League road win since October 13
th, 2017 at Columbia.
The Quakers got off to a quick start, winning the first set 25-21.
Autumn Leak was strong throughout the match and tallied four kills in the first set. Her most notable kills came late as back-to-back kills at 23-21 to end the set in the Quakers favor.
In the second set, the Quakers clamped down on the Big Green, limiting their offense for much of the affair. Four straight points in the middle of the set gave the Red and Blue all the cushion they needed, as they rode strong performances from Leak and
Margaret Planek to the win.
In what appeared to be a potential straight set victory, the Quakers ultimately couldn't hang on in third set, falling 25-23. Penn was two points away from the victory, until Dartmouth added five straight points to steal the victory away from the Quakers.
However, the Quakers tightened up their game and held on for a fourth set victory, by a final score of 25-21. The Quakers held a lead as large as nine points but had to withstand a late comeback attempt to secure the victory.
Daniela Fornaciari delivered the final blow on a strong block at the net for her third total block of the match.
Leak led the way for the Quakers with 15 kills, but the Red and Blue also got great production throughout their lineup. Fornaciari and
Kacie Burton each notched career-highs in single game kills with 12 and seven respectively. Burton also notched 43 assists, good for her sixth straight game of 30 assists or more. In addition, Planek recorded 11 kills to aid the offense.
Penn continues their road trip on Saturday evening as they travel to Massachusetts for a 5 p.m. battle against the Harvard Crimson.
