UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Marvin Morgan broke the program record on his way to winning the 60m for the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team at the PSU National Open on Friday and Saturday. Morgan was one of three athletes to achieve top-10 times or marks for Penn on the men's side.
Morgan opened Friday night by running a 6.75 in the prelims before coasting to a win with a time of 6.79 in the final. For the second straight week, freshman Payton Morris cleared a new personal-best height in the pole vault, this time soaring over 5.20m (17-0.75) for the fifth-best mark in program history. Finally, Ray Sellaro, another freshman, ran the 1000m in 2:26.02, the 10th best all-time.
In track events, Morgan led off with the record-breaking performance in the 60m; Calvary Rogers finished fourth in the "seeded" 200m, crossing the line in 21.55; Anthony Okolo was fourth in the 400m with a time of 48.87; Joe Novak placed second in the 800m and Sellaro shined in the 1000m to finish fourth.
In the field events, Penn claimed two of the three podium positions in the pole vault as Nathan Fisher joined Morris in the top three. Fisher cleared 5.10m (16-8.75) and currently holds the fifth-best mark ever. Cristian Constantin leaped 14.94m (19-0.25) in the triple jump to secure the second spot on Friday night.
