TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Pennsylvania women's track and field program added another ticket to Eugene on the final day of the NCAA East Region Prelims, as junior
Rachel Lee Wilson delivered a qualifying performance in the hammer throw, pushing the Quakers to a program record four entrants to the final round of the NCAA Championships.
Wilson took the stage early in the morning in the Sunshine State and tossed a distance of 61.34m (201-3) to finish 11th and solidify her spot to Oregon. Wilson is the first hammer thrower in program history to advance to the final round of NCAA's, joined by
Ashley Anumba in the discus,
Nia Akins in the 800m and
Anna Peyton Malizia in the high jump.
Other Saturday action saw
Lance Yassay narrowly miss out on a trip to Eugene in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.11m (6-11), but finishing 13th due to the total number of misses in the competition. Yassay was joined the competition by
Mike Monroe, who wrapped up his collegiate career and fourth-straight trip to prelims with a 16th-place finish. In the men's triple jump, freshman
Cristian Constantin leaped a distance of 14.42m (47-3.75), placing 38th.
Penn's second-ever relay team to advance to NCAA's of

Candace Taylor and Uche Nwogwugwu posted a solid performance, placing 14th with a time of 3:37.19. In the women's 5,000m
Danielle Orie and
Abby Hong culminated their dominant distance seasons, placing 28th and 36th respectively.
