PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team competed in a tri-meet at Temple Friday night, placing third with a score of 193.675, the Quakers' third-highest mark of the season.
BARS
The Quakers began their night on bars, posting a season-best score of 48.825. The freshman duo of
Allison Frommer and
Darby Nelson kicked things off, both recording scores of 9.725, rounded out with three-straight performances of 9.750 or above. Sophomores
Caroline Mitsch and
Alex Kothe both hit 9.750's, and sandwiched between was a team-high score of 9.875 from senior captain
Kyra Levi, placing second overall at the meet.
BEAM
Next up for Penn was beam, where the Quakers totaled a 47.425. The Red and Blue were led by junior
Nicole Swirbalus, who hit a season-best score of 9.800 in the two-spot. Swirbalus' mark was good for a third-place mark at McGonigle Hall.
FLOOR
The Quakers posted a team score of 48.975 on floor, ranking second, ahead of Maryland. Levi kicked things off with a 9.700, before Swirbalus continued her night of solid performances with a 9.775. Freshman
Darcy Matsuda followed up with a 9.825, ranking second for the rookie this season, matched with a identical score from classmate Nelson. Senior
Alex Hartke rounded things out with a 9.850 to solidify Penn's third rotation.
VAULT
Penn hit vault last, posting a mark of 48.400, their highest of the season. The Quakers saw high-level performances in the back-half of their rotation, beginning with a career-high of 9.725 from freshman
Jordyn Mannino. Junior captain
Caroline Moore followed that up with a 9.775, a season-best, before
Ally Podsednik stuck a 9.850, shattering her previous career best and ranking second in program history in the process.
