PHILADELPHIA – Five University of Pennsylvania field hockey players were recognized for their outstanding seasons on Tuesday as the Ivy league released its All-Ivy selections for 2018. Alexa Schneck, Paige Meily, Sofia Palacios, Erin Kelly, and Ava Rosati were all chosen as some of the top field hockey players in the conference.
Alexa Schneck (Jr., Reading, Pa.) earned her third-straight All-Ivy honor after today's announcement, and her initial first-team All-Ivy selection. Schneck closed out her season with a pair of goals against No. 4 Princeton. She led the team with 10 goals and five assists overall this season, a career high for both categories. Schneck ranked second in goals (8) and points (18) among Ivy League players in conference play. Additionally, Schneck's four game-winning goals were the most among all Ivy League players.
Paige Meily (Sr., State College, Pa.) was awarded her third All-Ivy honor and initial first-team All-Ivy selection after leading an outstanding Penn defense this season. The Quakers posted four shutouts over Ivy League opponents, their most since 1993, and six shutouts. Meily also tallied three assists this season and scored her first career goal – the game-winning goal against Drexel.
Sofia Palacios (Sr., Herndon, Va.) received her first All-Ivy selection as she was named second-team All-Ivy. Palacios was a mainstay in the Quakers' midfield, starting in Penn's last 13 games after returning from injury. She tallied two assists this season, setting up the game-winner against Dartmouth in double overtime and slicing through the Princeton defense for Schneck's second goal against the Tigers.
Erin Kelly (So., Bethlehem, Pa.) was named honorable mention All-Ivy for her outstanding efforts in the Penn midfield this season. She started every game for the Quakers this season, scoring three goals and tallying two assists in 17 appearances. Kelly played all 70 minutes in Penn's games against Princeton, Harvard, and Villanova.
Ava Rosati (Jr., Ambler, Pa.) received her first All-Ivy selection after being named honorable mention for her efforts in the cage this season. Rosati posted a career-high six shutouts and led all Ivy League goalkeepers with four shutouts in league play. She finished the season with a 1.60 goals allowed average and posted a save percentage of 0.689.
The Quakers finished their season with a 9-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Ivy League play to post their third-straight third-place finish in the conference standings.
