PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team wrapped up the ITA's Northeast Regional hosted at Princeton over the weekend. Kyle Mautner partnered with Dmitry Shatalin made it to the quarterfinals in doubles, while Edoardo Graziani, Kevin Zhu and Mautner advanced the round of 16 in singles. 

Mautner surpassed his result from last season in which he made the third round. The senior earned a bye into the second round this year and then rallied off two-straight set victories before falling to Lev Kazakov from Cornell, 6-2, 7-6 (3). 

Also earning a bye into the second round was Edoardo Graziani. The freshman defeated Buffalo's Ethan Nittolo before taking out Pietro Rimondini from Cornell in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1. Graziani fell in the next round to Cornell's top singles player, David Volfson. 

Like Mautner and Graziani, Zhu got into the second round with a bye. Zhu then defeated Harvard's Steven Sun in straight sets before advancing to the round of 16 via Princeton's Karl Poling withdrawing. The Penn freshman fell to Columbia's Jack Lin - ranked No. 110 by the ITA - 6-4, 6-1. 

Noah Makarome also earned a win in the main draw. Makarome defeated Drexel's Gustav Wogen, 6-3, 6-0 before falling to Binghamton's Ludovico Cestarolo in a close match, 7-6(5), 7-5. 

Freshman Jason Hildenbrandt advanced to the main draw after making his way through qualifying. He fell to Arnav Dhingra from Yale in the first round. 

The Quakers also found success in doubles over the weekend. Leading the way was Penn's No. 1 team of Mautner and Shatalin. The duo advanced to the quarterfinals as they defeated the Johnson and Wibler team from Buffalo, 8-4, before taking out fellow Ivy team Lam and Litsky from Brown, 8-7. The duo fell to Princeton's Seggerman and Rodriguez in the final eight. 

Also earning main draw wins in doubles were the teams of Aleks Huryn and Hildebrandt and Graziani and Zhu. Hildebrandt and Huryn defeated Green and Kemper from Fordham, 8-2 before falling in the second round. Graziani and Zhu advanced to the round of 16 getting wins over Elliott and Fishkin from Lehigh, 8-2, and Bryant's Plutt and Argintini, 8-5. The freshman duo lost in a tiebreaker to Soyfer and Volfson from Cornell. 

What's Next

The Quakers will have one final fall invitational this season. Penn will travel to William & Mary for the William & Mary Invitational the first weekend of November.
