EASTON, Pa. –
Sherryta Freeman, who has spent more than 15 years as a senior level administrator, including the past three years as the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator at Penn, has been named the Director of Athletics at Lafayette College.
Freeman arrived at Penn in 2015 and has served as chief of intercollegiate athletics since 2016. She was part of the leadership team tasked with developing and communicating the strategic direction of the program's 33 varsity sports, including budget oversight and personnel decisions. She was the sport administrator for football and men's and women's basketball and also oversaw the staffs responsible for compliance, student development and sports performance and the individuals charged with execution of the prospective student-athlete admissions and financial aid process.
"Lafayette has made an outstanding hire in choosing
Sherryta Freeman to lead its athletic department," said Dr. M. Grace Calhoun, Penn's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. "Her dedication to serving our student-athletes and coaches has made her an extremely valuable asset to our Division. I am confident that the experience she has gained as a Penn Athletics senior administrator has prepared her to successfully lead Lafayette's athletic department. She will be sorely missed at Penn but I am elated for her and Lafayette."
"I want to thank Grace for her leadership and mentorship during my time at Penn," Freeman said. "Penn is a wonderful place with a fantastic team that I will miss greatly. I will forever cherish the experiences I have had and the tremendous community that I had the privilege to be a part of. Ultimately, my role at Penn is what prepared me for the next level of my career and I could not be more thankful for interactions, responsibilities and relationships that have propelled me to join the ranks of athletic director."
