Saturday Showdown with Dartmouth on Tap for Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey teams looks to rebound in Ivy League action this weekend when they host Dartmouth on Saturday for the continuation of their Ancient Eight season. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network. The game will serve as the Quakers Play4TheCure contest as they look to donate to cancer research.

NEWS AND NOTES: DARTMOUTH
*The Quakers and Big Green meet for the 42nd time in series history with Penn holding a slight lead in the all-time matchup, 22-16-3. Dartmouth comes into the contest with an identical record to the Quakers and won their first Ivy League matchup against Brown last weekend in strokes.
 
*Dartmouth comes into the contest ranked 10th in the NCAA in defensive saves and saves per game while their offense is in the top-20 in points per game (7.56) and assists per game (2.22).
 
*11 different players have recorded a goal for Dartmouth with Katie Spanos leading the team with 15 points. Her five goals and five assists lead the squad in both categories.

NEWS AND NOTES: PENN
*Senior Alexa Hoover begins the week ranked 29th in goals per game (.78) and 38th in points per game (1.78) amongst her Division I counterparts. She's registered a point in six of the last seven contests and has recorded goals in five out of the last seven matches. Her 16 points place her fourth in the league.
 
*Sophomore Ava Rosati got her first career start against Harvard last weekend, marking the first minutes for the netminder in 2017.
 
*The NCAA released their third RPI standings of the season earlier this week and the Ivy League is well represented as one of the best conferences in the country. The Quakers clock in at No. 24 just behind Princeton (11) and Harvard (12). As a league, the Ancient Eight has the third most teams in the top-25, behind only the ACC and Big Ten.
 
*Penn has set up one of their toughest schedules in program history for the 2017 slate that includes eight of their 17 matches against teams ranked in the top-25 of the NFHCA Coaches poll. North Carolina (#6), Delaware (#7), Syracuse (#9), Harvard (#13), Princeton (#14), Rutgers (#20), Iowa (#23), and American (#24) and have all received votes as of the Sept. 19 edition of the rankings.

*Several freshmen have seen significant game action in the beginning of their careers. Reese Vogel and Erin Quinn have cracked the starting lineup while six have seen game action through nine contests.  
 
*The Red and Blue have a bevy of home games for fans to attend this season with 10 matches slated to take place at Ellen Vagelos Field. *The Quakers return nine starters and 15 letterwinners from the 2016 squad and welcome seven freshmen to the roster in 2017. Additionally, three All-Ivy honorees are set to return to the pitch: senior Alexa Hoover (First Team), junior Paige Meily (Second Team), and sophomore Alexa Schneck (Second Team). Hoover and Schneck received NFHCA All-Region accolades while Hoover was also chosen as a Second Team All-American following a year where she became Penn's all-time leader in goals and points.

*Penn announced that a trio of seniors have been selected to captain the squad for the 2017 season: Alexa Hoover, Rachel Huang, and Jasmine Li. The Red and Blue senior class made up of Gina Guccione, Alexa Hoover, Jasmine Li, Rachel Huang, and Liz Mata have combined for a total of 86 goals and 38 assists
