Track and Field Women Rewrite Record Book at 8-Team Select

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team featured eight performances entering or improving upon their spot in the Penn record book, highlighting a busy Saturday night at the Penn 8-Team Select. As the host school, the Quakers joined seven other competitors from across the Northeast region and both the men and women's squads took home the victory, with the men amassing 143 points and the women totaling 176 points.
In track results, Breanne Bygrave and Elena Brown-Soler both featured strong performances in the 60-meter hurdles. Bygrave crossed the finish line in 8.60 seconds, second-best in Penn history, while Brown-Soler finished in 8.89 seconds, ninth all-time. Cecil Ene ran the 400-meter dash in 56.39 seconds, good for sixth-best all-time. Taylor McCorkle improved upon her ranking in the 200-meter dash with a 24.48 second performance, sitting at third all-time.
Last weekend at the Angry Birds Challenge, Maura Kimmel claimed the top spot in Penn record books, and Kimmel widened the distance Saturday evening. Kimmel improved upon last week's record-breaking performance in the shot put with a toss of 14.67 meters. It was a Quaker sweep in the pole vault, as each Penn performer finished with record book marks. Zoe Early notched a leap of 3.75 meters, good for fourth all-time, Molly Minnig was second with 3.65 meters, seventh all-time, and Olivia Welsh entered Penn laurels with a jump of 3.50 meters, tied for 10th all-time.
On the men's side, the Red and Blue boasted 16 podium performances. Ross Wilson and Patrick Hally finished second and third respectively in the 1-mile run, while Chris Hatler and Jeff Wiseman placed first and second in the 800-meter dash. Calvary Rogers nearly bested his best performance ever in the 200-meter dash with a run of 21.76 seconds, good for second at the Penn 8-Team Select. The Quakers took second and third place in both the shot put and weight throw, as Noah Kennedy-White was featured in both events.
The Quakers return to action next weekend, heading back to the Big Apple for competition at The Armory, taking on some of the nation's best teams.
