Penn-Cornell Post Game Notes

Postgame Notes
Penn 31, Cornell 7
November 20, 2010

- Penn has won its 15th Ivy League title, second in league history (Dartmouth, 17).

- This is the eighth outright title for Head Coach Al Bagnoli which is the most all time. He has never shared a title as his eight total Ivy championships rank second in league history (Yale's Carm Cozza, 10).

- Penn completed back-to-back undefeated Ivy League seasons. That has occurred only two other times in the 55-year history of the league. Both occasions were Penn teams coached by Al Bagnoli. The 1993 and 1994 Quaker teams accomplished the feat as well as the 2002 and 2003 teams. The 2009 and 2010 Quakers now join those groups.

- Al Bagnoli now owns the highest Ivy winning percentage in league history. Bagnoli is 97-36 against Ivy opponents for a winning percentage of .729, which tops Princeton's Dick Colman's .726 (61-23).

- Coach Bagnoli earned his 97th Ivy League victory on Saturday - just the third coach all-time to reach that number. Bagnoli also won his 131st game at Penn, a school record.

- Penn's win is its 15th straight over an Ivy League opponent, the longest active conference winning streak in the FCS. It is the third-longest winning streak in all of Division I and the third-longest in the history of the Ivy League. The Quakers also own the top two longest streaks with the record set at 20 from 2001-04.

- Penn has won eight straight overall, 10 straight Ivy League road games and 17 straight over unranked opponents. The Quakers have also won seven straight in the always pivotal final month of November.

- Penn has also won 17 of its last 18 games and 20 of its last 22 Ivy League contests.

- Penn has claimed the Trustees' Cup from Cornell four straight times. The last senior class to defeat the Big Red four straight times was the Class of 2004.

- This is Penn's first nine-win season since finishing unbeaten in 2003.

- The Class of 2010 went 22-6 in Ivy play, the best for a Penn Senior Class since the Class of 2005 won 23 games.

- Penn has not lost a game outside of the state of Pennsylvania in over three years (Nov. 10, 2007 at Harvard).

- Penn has scored in 130 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in Ivy history. Brown holds the record at 148, a record which is still active.

- Senior Josh Powers started each of the last 24 games of his career, while senior Zach Heller played in 39 straight for the Quakers - every game since the season opener as a freshman.

- Senior Jared Mollenbeck and junior Greg Van Roten have each started the last 20 consecutive games on Penn's offensive line. Penn has had the same starting five on the offensive line in eight straight games. Penn has also had at least two rushing touchdowns in all eight of those games.

- Brandon Colavita has a rushing touchdown in eight of the last nine games and finished with a team-high 12 touchdowns this season - all rushing. His three rushing scores on Saturday were a career-high.

- Colavita also rushed for more than 100 yards for the second straight game and the third time in his career.

- Colavita averaged 5.8 yards per carry in 2010 - the second-best single season mark in school history (Chris Flynn, 6.2 in 1986).

- Andrew Samson notes: He scored in all 40 career games ... He finishes his career as the school's all-time leading scorer ... He holds the school record for made field goals in a career, made field goals in a season, made extra points in a career, extra point attempts in a career, field goal attempts in a career, kicking points in a career and consecutive made extra points in a career.

- Senior Josh Powers finished with a career high 11 tackles and two pass breakups in his final game.

- The Quakers have had a rushing touchdown in each of their last 13 contests, dating back to last season. Penn has also rushed for at least 100 yards in each of its last 11 contests going back to 2009, including nine with at least 200 yards over that span. Penn had 200-plus rushing yards in each of the last four games.

- Cornell scored in the fourth quarter. It was the first time they scored against Penn since 2008. A span of 10 quarters and a little more than 118 minutes of game time.

- Penn has either been tied or led the game entering the fourth quarter in each of its contests this season and 19 straight games overall.

- Penn held the ball for more than 36 minutes which is a season-high. The Quakers won the time of possession battle in every game this season and have done so in 17 of the last 18 contests, going 17-1 in that time.

- Penn's field goal at the 14:04 mark of the first quarter was its fastest scoring to open a game this season. The Quakers never trailed and have not trailed since the second quarter at Yale on Oct. 23 (279 minutes, 58 seconds of game time).

- The Quakers surpassed 30 points in three straight games for the first time since 2005 and have posted 24 or more points in eight straight games.

- The Red and Blue have now won 16 straight games when holding opponents under 10 points.

- Today's game was the 1,313th in school history, an NCAA record. The Quakers are the only school in NCAA history to reach 1,300 games.

- The Quakers win is the 808th in school history, tied for 10th in NCAA history. They are the third team in Ivy League history to reach the 800-win milestone.

- This was the 117th meeting between Penn and Cornell on the gridiron - the fifth-longest rivalry in college football.

- It marked the last game for 32 Penn seniors who finish their careers with two undefeated Ivy championships.
