PHILADELPHIA – After weather wreaked havoc on the original weekend schedule for the University of Pennsylvania baseball team, the Quakers and Lafayette were finally able to play, matching up in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Meiklejohn Stadium.

Penn (3-8) won both games over the Leopards (2-8), 2-1 in game one and 12-3 in game two. Game one ended in walk-off fashion for the Quakers, after senior infielder Mitch Montaldo doubled deep over the centerfielder's head driving in senior catcher Austin Bossart for the win. Montaldo would have both of Penn's RBIs in the game.

Senior right-handed pitcher Connor Cuff (1-1) picked up the game one victory on the mound for Penn, throwing a complete game, 7.0 innings, scattering five hits and allowing only one unearned run. Cuff struck out five Lafayette batters.

In game one, Penn took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Montaldo hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring junior outfielder Gary Tesch.

Playing a seven inning game, Lafayette tied the game in the top of the seventh after manufacturing a run helped by a Quaker error, before Montaldo's walk-off winner.

Penn's offense took control of game two right away, with the Quakers scoring two runs in the first inning, three runs in the second, and two runs in the third, before scoring two runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth. The Red and Blue totaled 12 runs on 12 hits, and drove in 10 runs.

Junior infielder Ryan Mincher went 3-for-4 in the game, with two doubles, while scoring four runs, and adding a RBI. Senior infielder Jeff McGarry collected a pair of hits, including a home run, while driving in three runs. Junior outfielder Matt Greskoff, Gary Tesch, and senior first baseman Matt McKinnon each collected two hits. McKinnon also drove in two Quaker runs.

On the mound in game two, sophomore left-handed pitcher Mike Reitcheck (2-1) earned his second win of the spring, working 7.0 innings for Penn. Reitcheck struck out two batters. In relief of the left-hander, junior right-hander Mitch Holtz, and sophomore right-hander Andrew Burnick each tossed a scoreless inning.

After beginning the season 1-8, Sunday's two victories are the first consecutive wins for Penn this season. The Quakers will look for a third straight victory on Tuesday, when they travel to face Saint Joseph's in the first Liberty Bell Classic game of 2015. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
