Penn 9, Georgetown 5 Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Penn finished off its Spring Trip with a 9-5 win over Georgetown to end Rollins Baseball Week in third place. Over the nine games of the trip, Penn finished 5-4 – the most wins on a Spring Trip by a Penn team since the 2000 squad also won five games.

The Quakers wasted no time getting to Georgetown ace, Will Harris. In the bottom of the first, Penn scored a run on a Dan Williams RBI-groundout., scoring Jeremy Maas.

In the second inning, it was Maas with the big blast, sending a three-run homer to left to give Penn a 5-0 lead. Maas is hitting .524 on the year, with seven doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI.

While this was happening, starter Robbie Seymour was cruising along, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. He struck out three batters – over a three-hitter span covering the last two outs of the first inning and the opening out of the second – to gain momentum. He was helped out by his defense as well, with catcher Will Davis gunning out a runner stealing in the second after he had reached on an error.

Davis came through at the plate as well, homering to deep right-center in the fifth inning for his first collegiate home run.

Penn got into trouble in the sixth inning thanks to walks and errors, allowing Georgetown to score five runs – only one of which was earned. The big hit was a Dan Godefroi three-run double. Rand Ravnaas followed with a single to score Godefroi, but Vince Voiro, who had just came in to relieve Seymour, picked him off first, 1-3-4.

The Quakers did not fold under Georgetown's pressure, adding three runs to their lead in the seventh inning. Tom Grandieri singled up the middle and was driven in by a Williams double. William Gordon singled home Williams, and two batters later, Derek Vigoa drove in Gordon with a single of his own.

Penn's bullpen held on to the lead, with Voiro, Todd Roth and Gordon shutting down Georgetown over the final 3.1 innings.

Penn is back in action on Wednesday, against Temple in Ambler, Pa.
