PHILADELPHIA--The No. 9 Penn women's lacrosse team rolled to a 13-2 win over Columbia after shutting the Lions out in the first half. The Quakers improved to 7-1 overall and undefeated 3-0 in the Ivy League. The Lions remained winless in the Ivies at 0-3 and 3-5 overall.

The Quakers set the tone with a goal just 1:29 into the game when Rachel Manson scored with help from Allison Ambrozy. Ali DeLuca and Melissa Lehman also both scored in the first 10 minutes and after the midway point, Lehman and Manson scored again and Emma Spiro and Bethany Warren also tacked on goals before the halftime break.

After the break, Emily Szelest took over for starting goalkeeper Sarah Waxman, who made one save on a free position shot in the first half.

Columbia's pep talk during the break inspirted a goal from Brittany Shannon just over two minutes into the period, but Penn's defense closed ranks and kept them off the board until Holly Gynn scored from Shannon at 15:06.

Meanwhile Penn's attack scored six goals with Lehman and Warren completing hat tricks. Spiro addedher second of the gameand Barb Seaman tallied her second of the season and newcomer Liz Scott scored her first goal in her collegiate debut game.

Szelest made two saves in her 30 minutes and Columbia's Emma Mintz stopped 11 for the Lions.

Penn continues its three-game homestand with a mid-week match-up with John Hopkins, April 2 at 7 p.m.
