NEW YORK CITY ? Junior Rachel Manson scored four goals as the No. 14 Penn women's lacrosse team equaled its best start in program history Saturday night, cruising past Columbia, 14-6, at Wien Stadium.

The Quakers (8-1, 3-0 Ivy) won their fifth game in a row and improved to 3-0 in the Ivy League for the first time since 1977. Columbia (3-6, 0-3 Ivy) dropped its fourth game in a row.

Penn's best start ever came in 1980, when the Quakers began the season 8-1-1. Penn is now 11-0 all-time against Columbia.

Allison Ambrozy started the scoring on a Chrissy Muller feed three minutes into the game, but the Lions came right back and equalized on Marisa Marcellino's unassisted tally with 24:07 left.

The Quakers responded by ripping off a 9-0 run to end the first half, which included three goals from Manson and two from Melissa Lehman. Ambrozy, Kaitlyn Lombardo, Muller and Barb Seaman also added goals during the run.

Kate Lombard scored from Marcellino's pass to open the second half and break the run, but Penn went right back on the offensive with Manson's fourth goal

Penn emptied its bench and slowed the pace as the second half wore on, with Marcellino notching her second with 23:07 left and then neither side scoring until Becca Edwards' goal with 9:34 remaining.

The two sides broke out for a flurry of scoring late in the game, first when Lombard and Marcellino hooked up again seconds later, and Katie Warner added another with five minutes remaining to make it a 12-5 game.

Samantha Bird scored on a pass from Chelsea Kocis, Marcellino completed her hat trick, and Hannah Rudloff closed the scoring with just over a minute to go.

Sarah Waxman earned the win for Penn as she split halves with freshman Emily Szelest. Emma Mintz took the loss.

Chrissy Muller had a terrific all-around game for Penn, scoring a goal and three assists while earning six draw controls and three ground balls.

Penn stays on the road with a trip to Penn State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
