Women's Lax Rolls Over Brown, 15-6

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Emily Cochran scored three goals and had two assistswhile five other Quakers had multi-goal games as the No. 20 Penn women's lacrosse team cruised past Brown, 15-6, Saturday at Franklin Field.

The Quakers hit a 5-0 run in the first half to pull away and lead, 8-3, at the half. Penn (9-6, 4-3 Ivy) wrapped up its Ivy League slate while Brown fell to 4-9 and 1-4 in Ivy play.

In addition to Cochran's five points, Chrissy Muller, Ali Ryan, Melissa Lehman, Becca Edwards and Samantha Bird all had two-goal performances for Penn.

Cochran opened up the scoring just a minute into the game, and Muller made it 2-0 five minutes later. Ryan scored with 20:11 left before the Bears answered with a pair of goals midway through the period.

But after a Penn timeout, the Quakers went on a scoring blitz. Muller added her second at 9:47, Edwards scored at 6:53 and Cochran tallied her second 30 ticks later. Chelsea Kocis scored what would hold up as the gamewinner to make it 7-2 at 5:46, and Ryan added her team-leading 23rd goal of the season 1:59 from the half. Brown's Mimi DeTolla closed out the half with her second goal at 0:47.

The second half was no different offensively, with Penn scoring the first three on strikes from Edwards, Allison Ambrozy, and Lehman. DeTolla completed her hat trick midway through the half before the Quakers answered with three more from Bird, Lehman and Cochran. The two teams then combined for three goals in the final 1:18 of play. Brown's Kate Staley scored first, followed by Bird's second goal with 36 seconds left. Krystina DeLuca closed out the game with a tally 19 seconds from the horn.

Karrie Moore went the distance between the pipes, making five saves in picking up the win. Melissa King made 11 saves, had five ground balls and allowed 15 goals in the loss.

Defensively, several Quakers stood out. Ambrozy caused five turnovers and had two ground balls, while Ryan added four caused turnovers and two ground balls to her two goals and an assist.

Penn will take the next two weeks off for final exams before playing their season finale at Syracuse on May 7 at 1 p.m.
