Dr. Cory McMillen was hired at the University of Pennsylvania in January 2022. She was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in 2024. 

McMillen made a short change in her commute, moving to Penn from Temple University where she spent nearly four years as an assistant athletic trainer. In that position she worked with the Owls’ women’s rowing, gymnastics and fencing teams. As a preceptor, McMillen also taught within Temple’s athletic training masters’ program.

In the year prior to joining the Temple staff, McMillen worked at ATI Physical Therapy as an outreach athletic trainer for Penncrest High School and Springton Lake Middle School. While completing her master's degree at Temple, McMillen was a graduate extern at Temple and provided healthcare services to Philadelphia Public Schools. In the fall of 2014, she lived in Alabama and worked with DCH Outreach, the Clinical Skills Lab at the University of Alabama.

McMillen is a 2014 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Athletic Training, and she served as an athletic training student at Pitt from 2012-14. From Temple she holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology and a Doctorate in Athletic Training.

McMillen has been a National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) member since 2014 and is a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC). She also holds certification in CPR/First Aid certification from the American Red Cross as well as Wilderness First Aid.
 
McMillen is married to Dr. Vic Szwanki, who is the Head Football Athletic Trainer at Penn after serving in that same role at Temple.
