Jim Pio brings more than a decade of collegiate playing and coaching experience to the Penn Sprint Football program, along with extensive experience coaching youth football and other sports.
A former wide receiver at King’s College, Jim played from 1998-2001 and was a member of two ECAC Southeast Region Bowl championship teams in 2000 and 2001. Following his playing career, he began his coaching career at King’s College in 2002, helping the team capture the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
From 2003-2005, Jim served on the coaching staff at Trinity College, where he was part of one of the most successful stretches in the program’s history. During his three seasons, Trinity won three consecutive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships and completed each season undefeated.
He joined the University of Pennsylvania football program in 2006 as Director of Football Operations, gaining experience within an Ivy League football program and becoming familiar with the Penn football community.
After spending time away from collegiate coaching, Jim returned to the football field at the youth level, coaching with the Sacred Heart-St. Bernadette CYO football program from 2023-2025. He currently coaches with the St. Andrew CYO girls flag football program. In addition to football, he has coached youth basketball and baseball.
Outside of coaching, Jim has been active in professional and community leadership. He served as President of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Philadelphia Chapter from 2017-2021 and was recognized as GBTA Women in Travel’s Outstanding Male Mentor of the Year in 2025. He also serves on the board of the nonprofit organization Epiphany House.
Jim and his wife, Kelly, have five children: Lucas, Evelyn, Xavier, Seamus and Simon.
