Emily (Markis) Dorman joined the University of Pennsylvania's athletic training staff in August 2008, and has served as its Head Athletic Trainer since December 2016.
 
In her position at Penn, Dorman coordinates and administers a comprehensive intercollege athletic training program for approximately 1,000 student athletes by managing a team of 11 full-time and three part-time Certified Athletic Trainers. She works with Penn Medicine and other campus partners to ensure the smooth administration of athletic injury care and evaluates, coordinates and oversees implementation of research initiatives that seek student athlete involvement.
 
In addition to her duties at Penn, Dorman also serves as a member of the Study Advisory Committee and Scientific Review Team for the Ivy League/Big Ten Epidemiology of Concussion Study. She also is an adjunct professor in the department of Health & Exercise Science at Rowan University.

Prior to her arrival in University City, Dorman was a Fellowship Athletic Trainer for the United States Olympic Committee. She was stationed at the US Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., for the 2007-08 academic year and worked primarily with women’s wrestling and men’s and women’s weightlifting but also Greco-Roman wrestling, boxing, and short track speed skating. During her one-year internship, Dorman was part of the medical team for the 2008 US short track speed skating national championships.

Dorman—who grew up near the Harrisburg area—earned her master's degree in Kinesiology from Temple University in 2007, while working as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Penn Charter. She earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from High Point University in 2005, graduating summa cum laude.
 
Dorman has been a National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) member since 2004. A Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC), she is also certified as a CPR and AED Professional Rescuer and a CPR Instructor by the American Red Cross.

Emily is married to Charles Dorman, and they are the proud parents of twins William (son) and Charlotte (daughter).
