Sean Reeder enters his second season as Penn's tight end coach in 2024.
Reeder comes to Penn after spending the last six seasons on staff at Ithaca College, the first five working with the offensive line before he was promoted to the offensive coordinator role for the 2022 season.
In his first season as Ithaca’s OC, Reeder helped guide the Bombers to a 12-1 record and a trip to the NCAA Division III quarterfinal round. Ithaca averaged more than 37 points per game and nearly 200 yards on the ground. Under Reeder’s tutelage, A.J. Wingfield was named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year and Reeder was honored as part of Coaching Staff of the Year. Guard Jake Villanueva was named a second-team AP All-America for the second consecutive year.
In 2021, Ithaca went 8-2 and averaged 30.6 points per game. With Reeder as the offensive line coach, Villanueva earned All-America honors from both the AP and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Running back Jalen Hines earned Liberty League Rookie of the Year laurels.
Reeder’s offensive line in 2019 had a lot to do with the Bombers having one of the most prolific offenses in program history. Ithaca averaged 37.6 points per game and 447.8 yards of total offense (323.0 yards passing, 124.8 rushing). The Bombers scored more than 30 points in seven games, including a season-high 66 in the season opener against Saint Vincent.
In 2018, seniors Jake Bernstein and Bobby Puckey were both named All-Liberty League on the offensive line following a strong season. Ithaca averaged 22.9 points and 352.9 yards per game while Bernstein was named All-ECAC and the duo earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
After just one season at IC, Reeder’s impact was immediately felt on the offensive side of the ball; the Bombers rushed for nearly 40 more yards (70.8 to 118.5) than the season before and averaged five more points per game. Two linemen were named all-league in Geoff Bell and Jae Choi.
Prior to his stint at Ithaca, Reeder spent two years at Division II Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska, serving as a graduate assistant offensive line coach. Before that, he worked at California Lutheran University as a tight ends and offensive line coach for the Kingsmen, also assisting at Agoura High School in 2013.
Appearing in the NCAA Division III playoffs three times as a student-athlete, Reeder played on the O-line at Johns Hopkins and graduated in 2013. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from JHU and his master’s in exercise science from Wayne State.
A native of Camarillo, Calif., Reeder won two state championships at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif.
