Jack Hughes enters his first season as Penn’s Defensive Quality Control Coach in 2025.
He comes to University City following two seasons at John Carroll University as a student assistant coach for quality control and the defensive line.
During his time at John Carroll, Hughes played a key role in gameday preparation, practice planning, and film breakdown. He assisted in the development and implementation of defensive line drills, signaled defensive plays during practices, drew scout cards, and ran the scout offensive line. Hughes also handled a wide range of video responsibilities, including filming, labeling, and organizing Hudl content to support both opponent analysis and internal self-scouting.
In addition to his on-field work, Hughes contributed to recruiting efforts, creating digital resources to support coaches' recruiting territories and assisting with high-volume prospect evaluation and campus visits. He was also instrumental in operational logistics, collaborating daily with the Director of Football Operations and the defensive staff.
Hughes began his coaching career after two seasons in 2021 and 2022 as a tight end for the Blue Streaks.
Hughes earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing with a minor in Leadership from John Carroll University in 2025. He is a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy and Lake Norman High School.
Hailing from Mooresville, N.C., Hughes is the son of Penn defensive line coach Hank Hughes.
