Field Hockey Suffers in Loss Against Dartmouth, 4-0

HANOVER, N.H. – Penn field hockey fell to Dartmouth for the first time since 2014, 4-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Big Green scored once in the opening quarter before adding three goals in the second half to secure the victory.

*Penn outshot Dartmouth, 4-1, in the second quarter.

*Ruby de Frees made a crucial save against Ella Bowman in the second quarter to keep the deficit at one heading into halftime.

How It Happened
Dartmouth struck less than a minute into the opening quarter when Ava Russo found Lilly Venezia, who scored to put the Big Green ahead, 1-0.

The Quakers looked to respond, but Dartmouth held a 5-2 advantage in shots through the opening quarter as the Big Green carried its one-goal lead into the second.

Penn came out stronger offensively in the second quarter, recording four shots compared to Dartmouth's one. De Frees came up with a crucial save against Ella Bowman, the only Dartmouth player to record a shot in the period, keeping the Red and Blue within one heading into the break.

Dartmouth held a 6-4 advantage in shots through the opening 30 minutes and maintained a 1-0 lead.

The Big Green extended its advantage in the third quarter. After Penn was unable to clear a Dartmouth penalty corner opportunity, Lucia Campaño took advantage and found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 contest.

Two minutes later, Ruby Walsh added another goal for Dartmouth, extending the Big Green's lead to 3-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

Dartmouth continued to pressure the Quakers in the final period, with Walsh finding the back of the net again with 2:15 remaining to push the lead to 4-0.

The Red and Blue continued to battle through the final minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net as Dartmouth secured the a 4-0 victory, breaking Penn's ten-year win streak against the Big Green and first Ivy League win since 2023.
